Every order is custom-cut to your specs — we don't sell off-the-shelf dimensions. Here's how it works:
- Place your order and specify your required thickness, width, and length in the order notes — or contact us directly before placing
- We carry White Oak in both 4/4 and 8/4. Quarter-sawn and Rift-sawn are available in both thicknesses
- Minimum order is 250 board feet. Volume pricing kicks in automatically at 1,000 bdft
- Because every order is milled to your specifications, all sales are final on custom cuts. If there's a grading error or a mistake on our end, we'll make it right — contact us and we'll sort it fast
- Not sure what thickness or grade you need? Reach out before ordering and we'll help you dial in the right spec for your project
We ship nationwide. Here's what to expect:
- All orders ship via freight. After your order is placed, we'll contact you to confirm freight arrangements based on your order size and location
- Freight cost varies by order volume and destination — larger orders typically offset shipping costs significantly per board foot
- Quarter-sawn and Rift-sawn boards require extra care in bundling due to their cut orientation. We handle that before anything leaves the mill
- Have a preferred freight carrier or a loading dock requirement? Let us know and we'll work around it
We grade every board ourselves to NHLA (National Hardwood Lumber Association) standards. Here's what each grade means for White Oak:
FAS — The clearest, most defect-free material we produce. Long, clean boards ideal for cabinetry, fine furniture, and any application where appearance is everything.
Common 1 — Minor natural character, highly usable. A strong workhorse grade for furniture components, interior millwork, and flooring where some variation is acceptable.
Common 2 — Shorter clear sections, more natural markings. Best for projects where material gets cut down anyway and cost efficiency matters.
Rustic — Knots, color variation, and raw character throughout. Perfect for beams, barn-style furniture, accent walls, and any project that calls for an organic, natural look.
Quarter-sawn — Cut at a 60–90° angle to the growth rings, producing the distinctive ray fleck pattern White Oak is known for. Exceptional dimensional stability — the premium choice for flooring, cabinetry, and fine furniture.
Rift-sawn — Cut at roughly 30–60° to the growth rings, producing a clean, straight, consistent grain with no ray fleck. The most stable cut we offer and the most uniform in appearance — ideal for modern cabinetry, door frames, and architectural millwork.

Frequently Asked Questions
We carry four grades of 4/4 American Black Walnut: FAS, Common 1, Common 2, and Rustic — all graded to NHLA standards. FAS is our cleanest, clearest material. Rustic is the most character-heavy. If you're not sure which grade fits your project, reach out and we'll point you in the right direction.
Yes - that's the whole point. We custom-cut every order to your specs. Tell us your required thickness, width, and length and we'll mill it to match. You don't pay for material you won't use.
Yes. If you're unsure about grade or color for a big buy, contact us before ordering and we can discuss sample options. We'd rather you know exactly what you're getting than deal with a frustrated customer after the truck shows up.
Our pricing structure starts at 250 bdft because that's where we can offer real value on custom cuts. If you're consistently under that, we may not be the right fit right now - but if you're growing and expect to hit those volumes, reach out anyway. We work with a lot of small shops who started small and scaled up.
